Fall Theater Dazzles Audiences

S.A.
This November, St. Luke’s Theater Department hosted two productions: the Middle School performance of “Rogues’ Gallery” and the Upper School performance of “Soundscapes.”

“Rogues’ Gallery” delighted audiences with a whodunnit mystery about two hapless security guards investigating who destroyed the art gallery's prize sculpture to find every suspect caused mayhem that day, from would-be art thieves and confused tourists to fumbling custodians and overenthusiastic art dealers.

“Our fantastic cast and crew had so much fun with this wonderfully absurd show,” said Director Leo Mahler. “Each actor worked to develop unique character accents or mannerisms and nuanced backstories and made the script their own, finding creative ways to add even more humor and joy into each scene. Behind the scenes, our technicians also had some exciting challenges to sink their teeth into. Far beyond crafting dozens of boxes, they found ways to work magic onstage. From a prop that fell out of a bag at just the right place and time to an escape rope that dropped from the ceiling, our incredible Tech Crew went to work. It all comes together in an hour of nonstop laughs.”

St. Luke’s Upper School Theater celebrated neurodivergence in a compelling tale of a young artist who sees color while listening to music. “Soundscapes” tells the story of Iris, who has synesthesia. At first, she thinks everyone sees colors and shapes when music plays, but as she becomes a teenager, it becomes clear that others don’t understand. An ensemble chorus of colors brings Iris' experience of discovering her neurodivergence to life in this performance.

“I was so proud of the students. They put on a beautiful production and took the time, care, and attention to better understand the main character's condition and best represent neurodivergence,” shared Director Dawn Fuller. “Looking out at the audience as they waved their colored ribbons during the performance alongside our cast was heartwarming and highlighted why we do shows like this.”
