St. Luke's Girls Tennis: Season Outlook

As the St. Luke's Storm Girls Varsity Tennis team prepares to defend its New England Class C Championship this season, anticipation is high following a promising preseason.
Head coaches Brinley Ehlers and Tish Tregellas are thrilled with the dedication and enthusiasm demonstrated by their players, setting a strong foundation for the season ahead.
The team's preseason was marked by rigorous training sessions and a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, for warm-weather training. "We ran try-outs prior to Spring Break, and the returning Varsity team did daily Bluestreak workouts and practiced on the courts," mentioned Coach Ehlers. Additionally, the team had the invaluable opportunity for spring training in Florida, where they honed their skills under the guidance of USTA pros and secured an impressive win over Montverde Academy.”
Leading the Storm this season are captains Kelly Neuner ’24 and Izzy Levi ’24, whose exceptional leadership qualities have already shone through. Coach Tregellas said: “Kelly and Izzy have been on the team for several years and have already demonstrated great leadership skills. They have planned fun activities for the team throughout preseason and are always very approachable. They are always inclusive and have great team spirit, which is exactly what we are looking for.”
With a talented roster, several players have already distinguished themselves. Neuner returns as a formidable force at #1 singles, while sophomore Maddy Alecia impressed in Florida at #2 singles. Senior Izzy Levi showcased her skills at #1 doubles, contributing to the team's strength and depth.
The Storm added Freshmen Charlotte Mannix and Daphne Antonioli, along with eighth grader Sophie Seaver. The coaching staff is excited to see what they can achieve this season.
With a history of success, the Storm enters the season with ambitious goals. Coach Ehlers emphasizes, "We are defending NEPSAC Champs and hope to defend our title. We want to be competitive in every match, striving for excellence individually and collectively.”
Despite their strengths, the team acknowledges the challenges ahead, particularly in the competitive FAA league. With a mix of determination and skill, they aim to navigate these obstacles and build upon last season's successes. Coach Tregellas expresses confidence in her players, stating, "They are always cheering each other on, supporting each other. We feel really lucky to have talented, enthusiastic, and devoted players."
The Storm opened up with a tough 1-6 loss against Greenwich Academy on Wednesday, April 3but bounced back with a 6-1 road win at Greens Farms Academy on Thursday, April 4, in a rematch of the 2023 NEPSAC Class C Championship match.
