Grandparents and Special Friends Day 2023

Cindy Dill, Director of Annual Giving & Senior Gift
On Thursday, May 4, our fifth grade class welcomed a flurry of visitors to campus as part of their annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day. Nearly 60 guests were in attendance, from across the country and even from Germany!

The day started with breakfast in the Athletics Center, followed by a warm welcome from our Head of School, Dr. Mary Halpin Carter, and Head of Middle School, Amber Berry. “We are excited to host this event on campus for our fifth grade students to share their school community with the important people in their lives,” said Dr. Carter. “My hope for today is that you get to experience this phenomenal SLS education and see how known, encouraged, and challenged your student is.”

Guests enjoyed breakfast before heading to classrooms for a taste of what it’s like to be a St. Luke’s fifth grade student. Throughout the day, they played math BINGO and Jeopardy, used figurative language to write “quotable sentences,” played a Countries of the World map quiz game, and listened to presentations of students’ “Cut the Rope” projects, which explained the concepts of Newton’s Laws. A busy day indeed!
